Funding Rate

Periodic payment between perpetual futures longs and shorts that keeps the contract tethered to spot.

On perpetual futures (perps) there is no expiry, so instead of delivery the exchange forces a periodic transfer between the two sides to anchor the contract price to the spot index. Binance pays funding every 8h at 00:00, 08:00, and 16:00 UTC. A positive rate means longs pay shorts (perp is trading at a premium). Negative means shorts pay longs (perp at discount). Extreme rates signal crowded positioning and typically mean-revert. We track this live on the funding heatmap and combine it with open-interest delta to produce the Pressure Score.
