This is a model price · your exchange will also apply funding, insurance fund, and tiered MMR adjustments at liquidation time. Always add a safety buffer.

How the math works

For isolated margin:

  • Long: liq_price = entry × (1 − 1 / leverage + maintenance_margin_rate)
  • Short: liq_price = entry × (1 + 1 / leverage − maintenance_margin_rate)

For cross margin, the available wallet balance extends the liquidation buffer. We model that as an additional margin cushion added to the isolated formula.

Maintenance margin rate (MMR) varies by exchange and notional tier. Typical ranges: 0.4% (Binance BTC low-tier) to 2% (altcoins at high notional). Check your exchange's margin schedule for exact values.
